The Thermopolis Middle School will be presenting their band and choir Showcase tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The musicians will take the stage and ‘showcase’ the work they have been putting in during the first two months of school. The Ralph Witters Elementary Parent Teacher Organization is inviting families for a movie at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at the school gym. Last Saturday, Thermopolis Middle School choir students attended the Northern Big Horn Basin Music Festival in Worland. Director Drew Brown said there were four schools attending the conference — Thermopolis, Worland, Cody and Lovell — and each year a director from one of the attending schools conducts the performance. Last Saturday the Hot Springs County High School marching band competed at the state marching festival at the Casper Events Center, performing their show "Women of Pop" and earning an Excellent rating, a 2 on the three-point scale where a 1 is a Superior and a 3 is Good. Hot Springs County will have 21 students competing at 4 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 13 at the state marching festival at the Casper Events Center. The Hot Springs County High School Robotics teams have been busy with designing and developing their creations, with their first competition — a scrimmage hosted here — coming up on Nov. 10. Teacher London Jenks said the competition this year is utilizing cubes representing gold and whiffle balls representing silver. Next week Hot Springs County schools will be celebrating National School Lunch Week, Oct. 16-19. Tammy Redland, head cook at the high school, said this week the students are taking an online survey to determine what their favorite lunch is, and that choice will be served next Wednesday. The Hot Springs County High School Drama Club has been working hard on their Fall Showcase along with their procenium piece, in preparation for State Drama, Dec. 1 in Rock Springs. Drama Club director, Mary McGillivray said the students are working on a variety of pieces, both varsity and novice level, including monologues, duets and even some musical theatre pieces, solos and duets. Winners of the Homecoming "Mangeant", juniors Riley Shaffer and Tyler Kay, showed off their best assets on Monday. The pair recreated a dance scene from Dirty Dancing, complete with stunt doubles for the lift, and made it very clear they were promoting world peace and saving the polar bears during the interview portion of the pageant. Last Wednesday, the Makerspace area of Thermopolis Middle School looked more like a studio for a cooking show, as Brailee DeVries and Brody Sorensen worked alongside Pam Jensen of King Arthur's Flour, for the company's Bake for Good Kids program. The local FFA chapter’s Days of Community Service will kick off with a cleanup day on Friday, Sept. 21 at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. After school, FFA members will head to the fairgrounds to paint trash cans, gates and anything that needs a touch up. Monday starts Homecoming Week for the Thermopolis Bobcats and there is plenty going on to keep everyone entertained for the duration.
