As we head in to the holiday season, it is a good time to take a look back at the many triumphs of Hot Springs County High School in the fall sports programs. The Bobcats and Lady Cats competed in golf, cross country, volleyball and football - with each team hitting new highs, and bringing home new hardware for the trophy case. In golf, the Thermopolis golf teams had garnered state championships in the two preceding years. The Lady Cats were state champs in 2023, and the Bobcats were state champs in 2024. Last week, the Thermopiles Middle School wrestling team had back to back tournaments in Shoshoni on Friday and Lander on Saturday. Both the boys and girls teams once again brought home team championships with nine teams in attendance it both tournaments. It was a full week for the Thermopolis Middle School Wrestling team starting off with a triangular with Worland and Greybull last Tuesday in Basin followed by the Glenrock Team Duals on Friday and the Riverton Invitational on Saturday. Last Friday night was Halloween, and there was a lot going on in Thermopolis. The Burns Broncs were at Leroy Hayes Field looking to defeat the Bobcats on their home turf. At games end, however, the Broncs would head home – sans treat, and with their season coming to a screeching halt. The Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats volleyball team was in Lander last weekend, to compete in the West Regional Tournament. Four teams from the Northwest quad, were joined by four teams from the Southwest quad. Each team needed two wins, over the course of the two-day tournament, in order to punch their ticket for a trip to play in Casper this weekend, at the state tournament. The Thermopolis Middle School wrestling team traveled to the Worland Middle School Invitational last Saturday, competing with nine other schools. The boys A Division brought home first place with 153.5 points, beating second place Powell (141.5 points) and third place Lander (11.5) points and crowning six champions. Last week, the Hot Springs County High School varsity volleyball team played two in-conference matches – one at home and one on the road. On Friday, the Lady Cats hosted the Lady Blue of Shoshoni. Following on a trend, the Hot Springs County High School volleyball team played away and home games last week, facing the Lady Bulldogs in Lovell on Thursday, and then the Cougars of Wind River for Homecoming on Saturday. Going into the match, Lovell was ranked number three among Class 3A teams, and their level of play displayed how they come by their ranking. The event will serve as a final tune-up for the conference finals, which will be held at Wyoming Indian on Friday. On Friday night the Lyman Eagles rolled into town to challenge Hot Springs County at Leroy Hayes Field. It was Homecoming week and the Bobcats were looking to extend their win streak. Scheduling conflicts with an event being held in Cody the same day caused just one other varsity team to appear for the event in Thermopolis. Seven middle school teams gathered in Thermopolis last Friday for the Bobcat Cross Country Invitations held at the Thermopolis Golf Course with the TMS boys team placing 4th and the girls finishing in sixth place.
