Bobcat wrestling was busy last week with a dual at home on Thursday and then a trip to Riverton on Friday and Saturday for the annual Ron Thon Memorial Tournament. Last Thursday night the team hosted the first of their two home duals of the season, matching up with the Panthers of Powell. The Cats are thin in numbers this year and consequently they give up a lot of open weights in a dual. The Hot Springs County High School Lady Cat wrestlers headed to Riverton last week to match up in the annual Ron Thon Memorial Tournament. The Ron Thon is a huge tournament, drawing forty teams in competition this year and operates on an all class basis meaning wrestlers compete in their weight class against opponents from all levels of schools in Wyoming. The Hot Springs County High School Bobcats were on the road last weekend facing 2A Northwest foe Rocky Mountain on Friday night, and then matching up with Class 3A Lovell on Saturday. The Grizz of Rocky Mountain came into the game with a five hundred overall record of 8-8 (compared to the Cats 11-3 record), but were 2-0 in the 2A Northwest quad just like the Bobcats. The Hot Springs County School Board met for their first meeting of the new calendar year on January 15. With a relatively light business agenda, the board enjoyed some time acknowledging some well-earned accolades of the student body. The Hot Springs County High School Lady Cat wrestlers traveled to Lander last weekend for the two-day Lander Invite Tournament. Twenty-six teams from around the State of Wyoming were joined by the Thunder Ridge team from the State of Idaho. Cody won the team competition with 216.5 team points. With a team of just four competitors, the Lady Cats put three into the semi-final round and finished the event with two individual championships. The Travel & Tourism Board met on January 20 for their first regular monthly meeting of the new calendar year. The board reviewed the status of their on-going projects, and discussed other future projects. Director Angie Guyon reported that the December, 2025, income to the organization from the lodging tax had been in the sum of $15,651.42, which represents an increase of more than 56%, over the same time period in 2024. The Hot Springs County Commissioners held their first meeting of the new year on January 6, 2026. The commissioners were advised that the Kirby Creek Irrigation District was not in compliance with their filings with the Wyoming Secretary of State, and were in jeopardy of being dissolved as a result. It is understood that the entity has recently made the necessary filings with the state. At the meeting is was not known if the filing would abort the dissolution. With a relatively light agenda, the Thermopolis Town Council held its first regular meeting for this year on January 6. There were no public hearings on the council’s agenda, and no member of the public appeared to speak for citizen participation. After dividing the team to compete at three different locations the week before, the Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats wrestling team was reunified last weekend for the Clash at the Crossroads Tournament in Shoshoni, where all members of the team were able to place in the event. Fresh off their holiday break, the #5 ranked Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats basketball team were back in action last week meeting up with the four top-ranked Class 2A teams in the state. On Thursday, January 8, the team traveled to Wyoming Indian to take on the #4 ranked Lady Chiefs.
