Hot Springs County High School is planning a special Dinner and Walk In Movie Night event for high school students and their parents on Friday, Aug. 25. The event provides and exciting way to start the school year and an opportunity to interact with staff. The time of year seniors look forward to and parents dread, graduation week, is upon us. This year, Baccalaureate will be held on Monday, May 15 in the auditorium. The service will begin at 7 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend. On Tuesday, May 16, seniors will gather for Scholarship Night at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. Thursday, May 11 is sure to be a wonderful evening of entertainment in Hot Springs State Park as the Hot Springs County High School bands and choirs will be presenting their POPS Concert at the pavilion. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. and feature a variety of music from Le Miserable and Phantom of the Opera to Disney classics and motion picture themes. This spring, fourth graders at Ralph Witters Elementary School were once again fortunate to experience two wonderful trips in Yellowstone National Park. Each trip consisted of a four-day, three-night stay in Yellowstone's Lamar Valley at the Buffalo Ranch, the weekends of April 14-17 and April 21-24. Baylee Shaffer and Aaron Hanson were among the soloists performing at the North Big Horn Basin Music Festival, hosted in Thermopolis last week. Shaffer earned a Superior vocal rating, and Hanson earned a Superior vocal rating and an Excellent flute rating. The students at Hot Springs County High School are ordering flowers, making hair appointments and renting tuxedos in preparation for Prom, set for Saturday, May 6. “The Roaring 20’s – A Secret Soiree” will begin with the Grand March at 7:30 in the auditorium. Ralph Witters Elementary will host its Kindergarten Round-Up for the 2017-18 school year on Thursday, April 20 from 5-7 p.m. at the school library. To be eligible for kindergarten, students must be five years old by Sept. 15, 2017. Those who are bringing children to register are asked to have an immunization record and a state-certified birth certificate. The inspiration for the project came after they read “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park. The novel tells two stories. One is the fictional account of Nya, a girl in Sudan who is fetching water from a pond for her family, travelling over miles of rough terrain in searing heat to do so.
