In June of 2016, Harley Rhodes, a student at Oklahoma State University & former graduate of Hot Springs County High School, will be joining 100 other Pi Kappa Phi’s from universities across the country and embarking on a 68-day “Journey of Hope.” The Journey of Hope is a 4,000 mile cross-country cycling trek that raises funds and awareness on behalf of people with disabilities. Tuesday's meeting of the Travel and Tourism Board opened on a positive report. Tourism Director Amanda Moeller presented the financial report and said it is up 25 percent from this time last year. The River Bend Dog Park opened last Saturday to a healthy size crowd. Several community members and their dogs showed up for the grand opening. Located on Hot Springs State Park property between the railroad underpass and bridge, there are several different types of obstacles on the dog run. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reports on fish population trends in Boysen Reservoir. Annual walleye netting at Boysen Reservoir this fall show that numbers of walleye and yellow perch are up. Strong recruitment in 2011 for both walleye and yellow perch are boosting numbers of catchable sized fish in the Reservoir, and another strong 2014 year class of walleye should make for catchable sized fish in the next year or two. The Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital this year will start a new program aimed at encouraging women in the community to get screened for breast cancer. In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HSCMH will offer a free 20-ounce thermal coffee mug and a cup of coffee for free for all those who receive a mammogram at the hospital.
