    This year, the Hot Springs County Pioneer Association, also known as the Pioneers, took on a project to engage the community in an effort to document family histories. The Pioneers previously published “Hot Springs County Memories from the Past” in 1996, as well as a supplement to that work in 1998. However, there have been at least two generations who have lived here for which there is no documentation, so the pioneers began soliciting family histories, in story form.     Winners of the Homecoming "Mangeant", juniors Riley Shaffer and Tyler Kay, showed off their best assets on Monday. The pair recreated a dance scene from Dirty Dancing, complete with stunt doubles for the lift, and made it very clear they were promoting world peace and saving the polar bears during the interview portion of the pageant.     The Hot Springs State Park Bike Your Park event provides an opportunity to celebrate “Bike Your Park Day” with either a casual mountain biking or road biking with discussion of what’s available in the state park.     The local FFA chapter’s Days of Community Service will kick off with a cleanup day on Friday, Sept. 21 at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. After school, FFA members will head to the fairgrounds to paint trash cans, gates and anything that needs a touch up.
