Last Farmer's Market of the season Saturday

Saturday marked the final day of the 2018 Farmer’s Market, a staple each Saturday for the past eight years.

Sonja Becker, organizer of the weekly market, said this year’s market season started out very strong with a really good turn out by shoppers.

“We are always happy to see new faces coming by,” she said, “as well as those who join us every year and every week to do much of their shopping.”

The market had between nine and 13 vendors each week, which Becker says is a little down from last year, but it was consistent with previous years.

“We had great produce in early this year,” Becker said, “although the tomatoes were playing hard to get and the hail hit a few vendors pretty hard.

“We have been very lucky to continue to see a wide variety of products at our market : jams and jellies, soaps and lotions, a wide variety of garden vegetables, fresh baked goodies and breads, jewelry and artwork, crafts, from quilts to hats, photography, as well as goat’s milk and cheese and a variety of organic beef, pork, lamb and chicken and honey brought in from Powell.”

Becker said they had music provided nearly every week and folks always enjoy impromptu jam sessions.

She added what is different than some other markets around the state and region is that everything you find at our market is made or produced by the person selling it.

“Friends and neighbors providing the labor of their love to our local community,” she said. “It doesn’t get any better than that.”
