At their May 19 meeting, the Thermopolis Town Council took up the issue of a draft budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27. The draft budget includes raises for town employees, which were approved earlier in the year by the council. In approving the payment of monthly bills, the commissioners denied the request of commissioner, Bob Aguiar, to be reimbursed the sum of $1,000, which he had paid for legal representation in conjunction with the Governor’s recent investigation of matters surrounding the Tipi Retreat issue. At their May 5 meeting, the Thermopolis Town Council appointed and swore in new Thermopolis Town Clerk/Treasurer, Connie Guntley. Guntley had been shadowing, outgoing clerk Tracy Van Heule, who retired at the end of April. Both teams competed in the 2A Spring Championship Tournament at Fossil Island Golf Course on Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9. At the April Hot Springs County School Board meeting, following an executive session, the board voted to approve pay increases beginning with the 2026-27 school year. They approved a 5% increase for administrative positions, a 6% increase for hourly employees and a $10,000 increase to the base rate for teaching staff, plus a step of $900 for instructional positions.
