    Travelers looking for Wyoming road information now have access to a new 511 travel map that offers improved functionality and usability. The Wyoming Department of Transportation revamped its 511 map and launched a new version on Thursday, Jan. 19, making it mobile friendly and providing even more road information, conditions and other travel information.     On March 16, 2016, two-year-old Brenna Michelle Rankin passed away at her home after a battle with cancer. Next month, a banquet will help raise money for a scholarship in her name.     Recently opening its doors at 215 South Fifth is Grandma’s Secondhand Palace. The store came into being after a benefit yard sale. Owner Kathy Najar explained her son, Shawn Goodman, was injured in September while he was cutting wood for personal use in the Bighorn Mountains.   • Volunteer Fire Department installs new officers

    The Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department released their final call log for 2016 and installed new officers at a recent meeting. The department averaged one call every three days during 2016 for a total of 108. Among those calls were 24 responses to vehicle crashes and 29 grass fires. The grass fires totaled 1,762 acres burned during the year. Firemen also handled five structure fires and two water rescues.     The indoor track at Hot Springs County High School is available to the public for walking use between the hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. If you enter the building during school hours, 8:20 a.m.-4 p.m., they do ask that you check in at the office. There may be times when student athletes are using the track.     Monday afternoon in Hot Springs District Court, Lane Gunkel was sentenced to a period of seven to nine years in the Wyoming State Penitentiary.     According to information from Hot Springs County Emergency Management Coordinator Bill Gordon, there was indeed an earthquake reported by the United States Geological Survey in the county around 10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5.
