Richard (Dick) Howe of Thermopolis was awarded a Quilt of Valor on May 11. Howe served in the US Army from 1967 to 1992. He attended Basic Training at Fort Lewis, Wash. and later trained as a combat medic. Bureau of Reclamation ordered additional release of water from Boysen Reservoir into the Wind River on Monday. Flows went from 1,535 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 2,150 cfs. The report shows the forecasted April through July inflow to Boysen Reservoir is 575,000 acre feet (af), which is 95 percent of the 30-year average of 603,300 af. All of the maps of Hot Springs County are kept in what are known as plat cabinets in the county clerk’s office for safekeeping. Karen Slocum approached the commissioners at their meeting on Tuesday to let them know the clerk’s office needs a new plat cabinet as all of the others are now full. During an assembly Tuesday afternoon at the high school auditorium, the Wyoming Association of Secondary School Principals (WASSP) recognized Breez Longwell Daniels was as the 2019-20 Wyoming Principal of the Year. After receiving her award Daniels spoke to the assembled high school students. Daniels shared how she graduated from Thermopolis 31 years ago. Wyoming’s unemployment rates for March were recently released by the Research and Planning section of the Department of Workforce Services showing a statewide fall from 3.9 percent in February to 3.7 percent in March. In Hot Springs County we added 18 more people to the labor force during March, but that is still 86 fewer than March of last year. Six more people were unemployed in March than were in February, but that is still 15 fewer than a year ago.
