The Hot Springs County Senior Center will host a fundraising cribbage tournament on Saturday, January 7 at 1 p.m. The event is open to the public and participants must be 18 years and older. The entry fee is $20, which includes $5 day money for the highest total points for the day. The first Community Blood Drive for 2023 will be held at the Senior Center on Monday, Jan. 9 from 2-6 p.m. The Blood Drive is sponsored by the Hot Springs Health Hospital Auxiliary. Due to extremely low temperatures last week, ice jams formed in the Bighorn River in Hot Springs State Park and other areas in the county. According to information originally put out by the National Weather Service Riverton office, the lowest recorded temperature in Thermopolis was -36 degrees over the two day period of Dec. 21-22. The Hot Springs County Senior Center will hold its Ringing in the “Noon” Year event for New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 30 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center. Hot Springs State Park Supervisor Kevin Skates is holding the First Day Hike on January 1, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m. Participants are to meet at the Thermopolis Golf Course to hike the new Runway Trail. A Cookie Jar Auction for the Carothers family will be on Saturday, January 7 at 5 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 701 S. Railway Ave. in Worland. There will be a dinner with the auction to follow. According to Hot Springs State Park Supervisor Kevin Skates, the ice skating rink will open on Wednesday, December 21. The ice skating rink is located at the softball field closest to the fairgrounds in the Hot Springs Rec District area. Skates said there is a horse trailer that contains skates, hockey sticks, field goals, and pucks to use. Search and Rescue member Casey Freund, said the Polaris Ranger Crew 1000 Northstar edition vehicle was approved by the County Commissioners in 2021. The cost to the county was $23,061.99.
