The Hot Springs County Senior Center will hold its Ringing in the “Noon” Year event for New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 30 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center. Hot Springs State Park Supervisor Kevin Skates is holding the First Day Hike on January 1, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m. Participants are to meet at the Thermopolis Golf Course to hike the new Runway Trail. Skates said, “Depending on the weather, we’ll probably just hike one to two miles, depending on how far people want to go. According to Hot Springs State Park Supervisor Kevin Skates, the ice skating rink will open on Wednesday, December 21. The ice skating rink is located at the softball field closest to the fairgrounds in the Hot Springs Rec District area. Skates said there is a horse trailer that contains skates, hockey sticks, field goals, and pucks to use. Hot Springs County Search and Rescue has a new side-by-side vehicle with snow tracks. Search and Rescue member Casey Freund, said the Polaris Ranger Crew 1000 Northstar edition vehicle was approved by the County Commissioners in 2021. The cost to the county was $23,061.99. At the December Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce board meeting, Kristen Gunther of Otterspace made a presentation about electric vehicle (EV) charging and their project with the chamber. At the December 6 Thermopolis Town Council meeting, the council passed a resolution for a budget adjustment that was originally adopted in June. This allowed the council to pass a second resolution that would pay for the extensive asphalt repair and the water project. The money for these costs will come from the general fund. At the first December Hot Springs County Commissioners meeting, Brian Clarkson and Maddie Ross of T-O Engineers gave the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) update. They reported they have scanned septic permit documents from 1985-1988, 1993-1997, and 1999. Those files were then returned to county planner Bo Bowman. Wyoming Pioneer Home resident Bobbie Butler recently turned 100 years old and a birthday party was held in her honor with family and friends attending. Bobbie was born in Oakley, Kansas, but grew up in Neosho, Missouri. She remembers being a young girl and traveling for about a month to Neosho in a horse-drawn covered wagon with her family, which included nine kids and her parents Jim and Hazel White.
