    With holiday supplies already covering the store shelves, individuals, families, churches and groups in Thermopolis are working to make Christmas a reality for needy children around the world.   • Elf Tree sign ups start Monday

    Sign up sheets for the annual Elf Tree will be available beginning Monday, Nov. 2 at the H.O.P.E Agency at 426 Big Horn Street or the Department of Family Services at 403 Big Horn Street. Parents of children ages newborn to seventeen must have their slips signed and returned to either of the two agencies no later than December 14 to be included on the tree.     Make plans now to attend the Hot Springs County Senior Center Dinner and Dance Friday, Oct. 30 with doors opening at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5:30 and dancing will start at 7 p.m. The dinner menu is pork ribs, baked beans, coleslaw, corn bread, pears and dessert. There will be a costume contest with prizes awarded to best overall, funniest and most creative.     The Thermopolis Christmas Committee is asking for businesses and community members to adopt a downtown light pole to decorate for Christmas. Deadline for adopting a light pole is Friday, Nov. 13. Poles have to be decorated by Nov. 28 and will be judged that day. Winners will be announced during the Hometown Holiday and lighting of the Christmas tree at 6 p.m Nov. 28.     A mass dispensing exercise is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27 by the Hot Springs County Public Health to simulate exposure to an Anthrax agent. The purpose of the exercise to treat people who may have been exposed to the Anthrax agent, and prevent them from getting sick. It is not to treat people who are already sick. All proceeds will go to support their constant travel to medical facilities in Denver and Billings.
