First Baptist Church of Thermopolis at 310 South Sixth Street is hosting a Liberty Quartet Concert on Sunday, Aug. 11 during the 11 a.m. worship hour. The concert is open to the public and there is no cost, but a love offering will be taken. Liberty is a Gospel group based in the West with a full-time concert schedule. On June 14-25, T.J. and Lea Schoenewald, as well as Marion Bishop, headed to Albuquerque, N.M., to compete in the 2019 National Senior Games, the largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors. The 14th Annual Rotary Club of Thermopolis’ Great American Turbo Turtle Trek is coming, Saturday, Aug.17 in Hot Springs State Park, starting at 1 p.m. The Trek is the main fundraiser for the local Rotary Club and the funds generated go towards service projects. During the July 30 meeting of the local chapter of Rotary International, District Governor Chris Woodruff and his wife Karoline joined more than 20 board members for a meeting before their regular meeting. After the grand finale of Hot Springs County Fair Week on Friday, things started buzzing right away for the Gift of the Waters Pageant and the Big Horn Basin Folk Festival in Hot Springs State Park on Saturday and Sunday. 4-H members from Hot Springs County traveled to Douglas the middle of July to participate in the State 4-H Shoot. Nominations are currently being accepted for the fifth annual local kids dig at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center. The dig itself is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and includes lunch. Regularly $100 per child, the scholarships cover those costs. Nominees must by ages 8-12 and Hot Springs County residents, and 12 spots are available. During the dig, kids will dig at the dinosaur quarry, do prep work in the lab and a variety of other museum activities. They will collect surface fossils at the Sundance Sea formation, and help...

With the start of school just around the corner, it is time once again for the People for People Backpack program to get rolling. The program consists of a group of volunteers in the community dedicated to stopping hunger for local children by filling backpacks with food that are distributed on Friday’s so they have something to eat over the weekend.
