    The Hot Springs County Commissioners held a final budget meeting last Friday to make the necessary amendments to balance the budget for the last fiscal year. Some of the line items from various departments had overruns on their budget, however, they also had line items in those same departments that were lower than anticipated, allowing the commissioners to juggle funds from one line to another and still come out with a balanced budget.     Local attorney Michael Messenger was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association convention in Cody on June 21. Messenger is finishing his 43rd year as a practicing attorney, all of which have been in Thermopolis as he came here during the Pageant Day weekend in 1975.     Last week saw the killing of five people at the Capital Gazette in Maryland, as someone opened fire with a shotgun in what was referred to as a “targeted attack.” Our hearts grieve the loss of our fellow newspaper staffers.     Last week, a clear “top dog” of the Hot Springs County Recreation District’s Adult Co-Ed Softball League, as The Team We Like The Most (TTWLTM) had a 17-12 win over One Stop Repair on June 26. Both teams were 5-0 going into the game, but when it was all over TTWLTM retained its unblemished record at 6-0, while One Stop took its first win of the season. But make sure you’re practicing those bumps, sets, digs and spikes and are ready to get your toes in the sand for Adult Co-Ed Sand Volleyball program.     A fan favorite and one of the funniest highlights of the Hot Springs County Fair is the pig wrestling contest. This year, it will be held on Tuesday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds arena.
