    After the fun of the fireworks has died down, you can still help celebrate Independence Day this Friday at the July session of Thermopolis Gymkhana. In honor of the holiday, and in addition to the regular competitions of barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, flag racing, dummy roping and the ever-changing fun event, there will be a painted pony contest with a special prize.     The Big Horn Bowhunters will be hosting a mountain shoot July 7 and 8 in the Big Horn Mountains east of Ten Sleep, on Canyon Creek Road, two miles in from US Highway East 16. Signs will be posted. Registration for the shoot will be 8-11 a.m. on Saturday. Shotgun starts on Sunday at 8 a.m. for registration and 9 a.m. for on targets. Costs are $20 per day for adults, $10 a day for youth, $5 a day for cubs and $40 a day for families.     The U.S. Census Bureau recently released 2017 county population estimates by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin. According to the estimates, the Hispanic population increased the fastest in Hot Springs County, at 71.4 percent between 2010 and 2017, followed by Niobrara and Johnson counties at 65.4 and 45.3 percent, respectively. The elderly population (age 65 and over) in the state grew 3.7 percent between July 2016 and July 2017, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. A newcomer on the ticket, Lackey said she’s lived in East Thermopolis since she moved here in 1999, and she wants to be able to voice her opinion. “It’s time for some changes,” she said. She’d like to see some revisions of the town’s ordinances and cleaning up the junked up cars out of people’s yard and driveways.     Boysen Reservoir was home to a branch of the 2018 Wyoming Walleye Stampede, and the team of Bill and Julie Mathews places 13th among the competition with a two-day total weight of 22.28 pounds. Teams can enter up to five fish each day of the tournament, but they have to be at least 15 inches long.     Willard Burton Allred, 78, passed away on July 2, 2018, at the Worland Healthcare and Rehab Center. He was born on September 11, 1939, in Worland to Golden and Clara (Stanley) Allred. He spent his early years in Worland and Ten Sleep graduating from Ten Sleep High School in 1958. During his high school years, he began working for the Wyoming game and Fish at the Fish Hatchery.
