Lady Cats tip off at home games

The Lady Cats varsity basketball team had three games this past weekend, splitting their win/loss record among Big Piney, Lyman and Pinedale.

Coach Matt McPhie said the girls struggled early against Pinedale and came away with a 59-43 loss.

“We dug ourselves a big hole in the first half, due in part to poor shooting and turnovers,” McPhie said.

The girls battled in the second half, closing the gap at times, but in the end, Pinedale made their plays and converted opportunities to seal the win.

McKenna Bomengen had 14 points against Pinedale followed by Ashley McPhie, who chipped in 13. Sesi Jensen managed eight rebounds for the team.

On Saturday morning the Lady Cats battled Lyman, losing a close one, 53-50.

Bomengen was lead scorer again with 21 points, eight rebounds and five steals to set the pace. Jensen again led the way on the boards with nine rebounds.

In the final game on Saturday, the girls came out victorious over Big Piney, 58-30.

McPhie led the team with 19 points and four steals on the defensive side. Jensen had a very productive game, collecting 12 rebounds and dishing out six assists.

The Lady Cats are now 5-3 on the season.

The girls will be hitting the boards at home this weekend for the Big Horn Basin Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The varsity teams plays two games Friday night, first against Shoshoni at 5 p.m. and Wyoming Indian at 8 p.m.
