TMS girls wrap up season

Thermopolis Middle School girls basketball teams finished off their seasons this last weekend with the seventh grade team taking on Worland at home and the eighth grade team on the road to Worland to take on Cody and Burlington.

The 7A girls fought hard against Worland on Friday but just couldn’t get there, losing 13-25. Unfortunately, it was a single elimination tournament, so the girls were finished for the weekend.

“Even though we lost, this was our best game against Worland,” coach Ashley Cleare said. “The girls held them to 25 points, which was less than what Worland had previously scored on us.

“The girls worked hard all season and every player showed great growth. They always hustled and played with heart.”

High scorer against Worland was Jayssie Owsley.

The 8A team faced Cody for their first game of the tournament and had a bit of trouble getting past Cody’s full court press in the beginning.

In the second quarter, they played their best basketball of the season according to coach Cleare.

They scored 14 points while holding Cody to only two points during that quarter. After half time, the girls had trouble finding that rhythm again and ended up losing 26-57.

Burlington was next on the court and it was a hard fought game with the score staying really close all the way to the end. Burlington came out on top, though, 33-43.

“These girls had a great season,” Cleare said, “and once again, each player improved immensely. In every game these girls were aggressive and played their hearts out.”

Dazlynn Hunt was the high scorer against Cody with eight points and Maggie Landon was high scorer against Burlington with 11 points.
