Thermopolis Middle School track kicked off their season last Saturday in Burlington. All four teams finished the event in 4th place in the team standing with the eighth grade girls with 53 points, the 6th/7th grade girls with 80 points, the 8th grade boys with 55 points and the 6th/7th grade boys with 72 points. Mother Nature continued to provide some fine spring-like weather for the Hot Springs County High School track team as they competed in Cody last week. The meet was smaller than the season opener in Wind River the week before, however, the competition continued to be top-notch. With seven schools sending teams to the event, the girls from Thermopolis finished in seventh place with 27 team points. The boys team finished in third place with 106 team points. Following their superb fall season, the Hot Springs County High School golf team will kick off their spring season this week, hosting the Thermopolis Invite on Thursday, April 2 at the Thermopolis Golf Course. The Lady Cats team garnered state championships in 2023 and 2025, with all five of the Lady Cats finishing in the top ten in last fall’s state tournament. With 37 wrestlers competing in the Montana Open wrestling tournament last weekend in Billings, Thermopolis Wrestling Club came home with the team runner-up honors scorning 263.5 points, just 5.5 points shy of winning the tournament. This year was the highest ever placing for Thermopolis Wrestling Club members at the large tournament.The club also had six wrestlers win the coveted Buffalo Skull trophy, the most ever won by the club. Member of the Thermopolis Wrestling Club once again split ways last weekend, with some attending the Showdown at the Casper Classic 3-style tournament while the majority of the team participated in the North Big Horn Rams Rumble Freestyle/Folkstyle Tournament held in Lovell. Next weekend will be the long-awaited annual Montana Open, where wrestlers from across the country meet in this highly competitive tournament to battle it out for the Bison Head trophy. Thermopolis Wrestling Club members split way last week, with some members traveling south to the Lander Legacy Classic while the majority of the team participated in the Buffalo Bill Showdown in Cody. Both tournaments offered Folkstyle and Freestyle competition. With limited numbers competing in Lander, Thermopolis won three individual championship, had two runners up and a third place. Another fantastic season has come to a close for the Bobcat and Lady Cat basketball teams. Both teams were crowned regional champions in Riverton last month, and then both teams ground their way into the championship games at state in Casper. The Bobcats finished their highly successful season with an overall record of 24-4, and went undefeated in the 2A Northwest quad. Last Sunday, Thermopolis Wrestling Club members competed at the annual Casper Showdown Tournament. In a field of 48 teams, Thermopolis, placed fourth, scoring 417 team points behind the much larger Casper teams who took home the top 3 spots.
