There is just one weekend left in what has been a remarkable season for the Bobcat boys and girls track teams. Last weekend, the team traveled to Lander for the Regional Championships, with the boys team placing second and the girls taking third. Thirty-one personal records were achieved. "It was a great regional meet," said head coach Ernie Mecca. "The kids competed well. The number of personal records shows just how well." The question now becomes whether or not the numbers from Regionals...

Everyone played pretty well and learned something.” Smith said the fourth place finish wasn’t bad, but the team was lacking a few key players. “We were missing a couple of our top players, which can make for a h...

Despite having golfers who played well enough to take home a state win last fall, the Bobcat golf team continues to have a rocky season with players out for various reasons. Coach Jacob Smith said he only had three golfers ready to play this past weekend for the tournament in Powell. “With band gone, so were most of the golfers. I took three boys and they all played well,” Smith said. The District Music Festival was this weekend, and a good number of golfers were there instead of on the greens. Spring track can be filled with highs and lows, and last weekend's meet for the Bobcats is a good example of some things going very right and others going very wrong. The Cats were in Riverton on Saturday for the Roy Peck Invitational and head coach Ernie Mecca said there were some absolutely joyous celebrations during the day, but also some grave concerns. On the boys team, Jacob Hart posted two automatic qualifiers for the state meet a mere week after being involved in an accident. "(For Jacob...

Joey Johnson and his son Hardy Johnson were the winners of the Two-Person Net Best Ball Tournament at the Thermopolis Golf Course this weekend. Johnson said that he and his son played a pretty good game of golf to lead to the win. “He scored a 98 over par of 78, I scored a 86,” Johnson said. However, because the scores were adjusted for handicaps and then changed based on best ball for the team, their final stroke score was 50. “If I scored a four on one hole with a handicap and he scored a three, then we would mark the three,” Johnson said. H...

The High School golf teams had their first meet last week, but early season woes kept a number of golfers from participating. “We had a lot of students on the Spanish Club trip to Costa Rica and several out of town for spring break last week,” coach Jacob Smith said. Because of this, the boys team was short some of their more experienced golfers and the girls team was made up of only one athlete. “Kristina Nading was our only girl, so we did not have a scoring team,” Smith said. “She improved her score by 20 strokes from last fall and I am...

According to head coach Ernie Mecca, they got a few more automatic qualifiers for the State meet along with more personal records in spite of cold, windy conditions. With so many personal records being broken this early in the season, the question is whether those who attended state last year and perhaps ranked lower will continue to climb and hit the winner’s podium this year. ...
