The Thermopolis Town Council approved the purchase of a new garbage truck at the cost of $145,075 during their meeting Tuesday. The new truck is a made to order 2016 Freightliner with a reinforced frame and Wayne Fury rear loader. The vehicle will be purchased from Jack’s Truck and Equipment out of Casper. A former Hot Springs County resident is facing 21 years in prison following the alleged shooting of his stepfather-in-law. The Washakie County Sheriff's department arrested Anthony Haire, 31, after a shooting that left Jamye SoRelle, 58, dead. SoRelle was also a former HSC resident. The Travel and Tourism Board has seen a significant increase in tax dollars during the past two months, with a $13,555.62 increase in tax money received. However, board consultant Amanda Moeller said the numbers come from an obvious source. According to Moeller, hotel booking websites have been withholding payment of tax money to the state of Wyoming for some time, but it was not explained during the April meeting exactly how long the practice was going on. Enrollment numbers in Hot Springs County School District #1 have stayed fairly even during this second semester. April’s numbers show a three-student difference from March in all grades, kindergarten through 12. The Hot Springs State Park Master Plan Steering Committee met last week to discuss the future of Hot Springs State Park. State parks officials say even though great progress has been made, nothing definitive has been done.
