The State of Wyoming’s Department of Audit has released their report on the cost of county government throughout the state for 2016. Included in the report is the amount of taxes collected in each county and how that money is spent. All the numbers are collected and a database created, based on information reported by each county clerk. Hot Springs County is the second smallest county, by population (4,812), in the state. Over the next couple years, people in Thermopolis can expect to see some heavy work with the water lines during a rehabilitation project. The board president for the coming year is Nichole Weyer, who will be backed up by new vice-chairman, Jennifer Axtell. A suit filed by the Town of Thermopolis against the Hot Springs County Commissioners has been dismissed by Wyoming’s Fifth Judicial District Judge, John Fenn. The suit revolved around the differences in interpretation of the statutes surrounding Title 25 patients, with regard to “who pays for what”. Title 25 refers to patients who are detained by law enforcement who may be a danger to themselves or others and are made to undergo involuntary psychiatric treatment (WY Stat 25-10-110). Thermopolis Volunteer Firemen responded to a house fire Sunday night on Black Mountain Road. The mobile home, with several additions, was 75 percent gone by the time firefighters arrived. Chief Mark Collins said suppression efforts were hindered by freezing temperatures and water hauling from a hydrant a few miles from the scene. Monday morning did not start out well at Hot Springs County Counseling Center after a pipe burst some time over the weekend. Hot Springs County Maintenance Supervisor, Chuck Carver, told the County Commissioners he received a phone call first thing Monday morning, letting him know there was a water issue and parts of the building were flooded. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a preliminary accident report detailing the circumstances of the crash of a two-person airplane in northern Wyoming on Dec. 7 that took the life of pilot Grant Belden of Thermopolis on his 34th birthday. Passenger Miles Hausner, of Worland, is reportedly in stable condition in a Billings, Mont. hospital.
