A sight that has become something of a staple in Thermopolis the last few years, Hawk's Avenue of Flags, may not be on display this Memorial Day due to the theft of four flags and poles. The theft was discovered on Monday when sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. a bag containing the flags, a note and $311.50 was found outside the VFW. Monday afternoon, Hot Springs District Court saw three subjects sentenced to probation. Ambra O’Brien was sentenced to five years supervised probation for possession of a controlled substance. The charge stems from a July 1 incident, during which O’Brien was found to have Oxycodone. O’Brien was picked up after a report came in of her walking down the center line of Highway 20. Monday evening during a meeting of the Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, the board looked over the budget for the fiscal year 2018-19; the budget will be finalized and approved at the regular June meeting. The Hot Springs County Commissioners made a choice for funding of the proposed new enhanced 9-1-1 system at their meeting on Tuesday afternoon. After going through the offers from various local banks as well as Motorola, the company creating the system, the commissioners determined they would take the funding offer through Big Horn Federal which carried the lowest interest rate for the 10-year term. During the regular monthly meeting of Hot Springs Travel and Tourism, Director Amanda Moeller reported they had received another high deposit of lodging tax receipts for the 2017-18 fiscal year. The May deposit was $12,890.73, compared to $7,913.54 this time last fiscal year. The deposit put the receipts for the fiscal year at five percent, or $8,460.29, higher than this time last year. During a recent meeting of the Thermopolis Town Council, Travel and Tourism Director Amanda Moeller said she did some paperwork for the State of Wyoming a couple months ago regarding opportunity zones, noting the town of Thermopolis was recommended by the governor to be such a zone.
