Three sentenced to probation

Monday afternoon, Hot Springs District Court saw three subjects sentenced to probation. Ambra O’Brien was sentenced to five years supervised probation for possession of a controlled substance. The charge stems from a July 1 incident, during which O’Brien was found to have Oxycodone.

O’Brien was picked up after a report came in of her walking down the center line of Highway 20. According to court documents, O’Brien said she also had marijuana and LSD on her, and it was previously stated the amount of Oxycodone was 5.88 grams. O’Brien’s probation is concurrent with probation she is currently serving in Circuit Court. Though O’Brien entered a guilty plea to the charge in November, Judge Robert Skar held on accepting it until a pre-sentence investigation was complete.

Skyler McClure had his probation revoked and reinstated. On June 6, 2017, McClure was sentenced to five years of supervised probation for a felony count of delivery of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor of possession of marijuana. The two charges stem from incidents between Feb. 19 and March 1, 2016.

However, he violated that probation by not notifying his probation officer where he was at on Jan. 23, 2018, admitting to using meth and marijuana on Jan.6, 2018, and admitting to using alcohol on Dec. 12, 2017.

In court Monday, McClure presented a plan, which he was asked to create, of how he would get his life back on track. In that plan, McClure said he would seek mental health, enroll in and complete inpatient treatment and work in a discipleship program. County Attorney Jerry Williams said the discipleship program has expressed a desire to have him back.

It was further noted during proceedings that controlled substances continue to play a role in McClure’s bad behavior, and re-instating the five-year probation sentence would allow him the opportunity to address his issues before imprisonment becomes the only option left. Michelle McLeran also had probation revoked and reinstated. In March 2017 McLeran was sentenced to three to five years with the Wyoming Women’s Center for fourth-offense driving under the influence. The charge was from an April 1, 2016 incident, with previous convictions from March of 2011, May of 2012 and the summer of 2014.

The jail time was suspended for three years supervised probation. McLeran was also fined $3,000, which is also suspended. But, there were two petitions to revoke that probation — one on April 17 and the other on May 7, both this year. On Monday, McLeran admitted to the allegations in those petitions, including testing positive for THC, alcohol, amphetamine and methamphetamine, driving on a suspended license, failing to signal a turn and leaving the scene of an accident.

The three-year probation sentence was reinstated, though Judge Skar advised he did not want to see McLeran before him again on a motion to revoke her probation.
