Dean of Students, Curt Mayer, said the change in attitude will hop...

Many parts of Wyoming are home to both black bears and grizzly bears. Bears may avoid encounters, however hunters can certainly come into contact with a bear that does not avoid you and instead exhibits predatory or aggressive behavior. There have been 7 people killed by grizzly bear attacks in the Yellowstone area since 2010, including the most recent tragic death of hunting guide, Mark Uptain, in the Teton Wilderness east of Grand Teton National Park. There have also been numerous bear encounters that ended with human injuries and/or bear...
Hunting season is getting underway and Wyoming Game and Fish has released their predictions for the 2018 hunt. With more fawns being born in 2017, the harvest looks good for antelope this year. Overall, the numbers look good and hunters can expect buck quality to be comparable to last year with good to excellent hunting success. Deer had a better fawn survival rate in 2017 than they have in years past, mostly due to the mild winter and a wetter springs providing plenty of feed. The mule deer numbers are still down some as they struggle to...

However, it looks like the local high school will retain the sparkling award — which resembles a WWE champ...

One of the rounds unfortunately went straight up and straight down, causing the grass fire. John Fish, firefighter and...

Water has been on a lot of people’s minds lately, with plenty of discussion in and outside of meetings of the Thermopolis Town Council. The Hot Springs County Rural Water Joint Powers Board has been a strong proponent for drilling a new well at Lysite Mountain in order to tap the groundwater there, and has presented a case that indicates there would be lower water rates and better tasting water for board members. Most recently the joint powers board – consisting of the districts of Owl Cre...

For at least the third time this summer, law enforcement responded to a vehicle parking in a traffic lane on Broadway. As heat and wear can cause the lane dividing lines to fade, certain parts of the street can appear to be one-lane with ample room for parking. However, drivers are reminded that downtown Broadway parking is only in areas designated by the diagonal yellow lines in the 500 block, and by diagonal lines along the curb or the lines in the middle of the street in the 400 and 300...

Those looking to take in a soak at the Hot Springs State Park Bath House next week will have to wait, as the building will be closed for construction Sept. 10-14. Park Superintendent Kevin Skates said the entire HVAC system needs replaced and workers will have to be in the roof and in the locker rooms, so closing the building is much simpler than trying to have the work done around visitors. Skates noted it has been at least 20 years since the system needed replacing, and the mineral air at the bath house can be awfully hard on electrical...
