    Moonlight Madness is returning to the streets of downtown Thermopolis on Thursday, October 28. The Masons will serve tacos from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Masonic Hall. The costume contest, sponsored by Dr. Vernon and Rachel Miller, will begin at 6 p.m. on Broadway in front of Town Hall.     Thermopolis Middle School (TMS) Principal Steven Soderstrom reported the students did very well on the WyTopp state testing results in English and Language Arts, Math and Science in Wyoming. TMS fifth graders ranked 9th in English and Language Arts and 4th in Math with 100% growth. TMS sixth graders ranked 4th in English and Language Arts and first in math with 100% growth.     At the October 14 Chamber of Commerce meeting held at Big Horn Federal, during old business, President Howie Samelson brought up the chamber banquet. Director Meri Ann Rush said that the planning for the banquet on October 16 started in the spring. The nominations were also made in January and February. Bill Gordon gave the Emergency Management report and presented the 2021 EMPG Grant Award Agreement. This grant covers 50% of Gordon’s salary and a few additional things.     Deputy rescues juvenile from canal POWELL (WNE) — An off-duty Park County Sheriff’s deputy jumped into action to rescue a juvenile from an irrigation canal on Sunday.     At the September 29 Hot Springs County Travel and Tourism meeting held at the County Museum, in the financial report, Treasurer Audra Dominguez reported and said they had another record-breaking month in receiving lodging tax revenue, now being five months in a row. August brought in $33,734.00 with a historical average of $29,014.64. This amount is 41% greater than the previous year in the same month.     On September 13, a dedication was held for two new structures at the Community Garden. The garden is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of East Arapahoe and Buffalo Street in East Thermopolis, near the hospital and Red Rock Family Clinic.     At the September 21 Thermopolis Town Council meeting during citizen participation Bradyn Harvey, representing the Odd Fellows Lodge, proposed a community food pantry to be placed in Bicentennial Park. This large metal cabinet would contain dry goods, diapers, tampons and other nonperishable items. The pantry would operate on the honor system with no questions asked if people need items from it.
