    The Red Dirt Master Gardeners are encouraging local home gardeners to donate their extra fresh garden produce to help their neighbors in our community. Last year was the first year Thermopolis participated in the Grow A Little Extra program and it was a great success.     Two events are being planned for the first weekend in August, the Gift of the Waters Pageant and Wyoming Discovery Days. Gift of the Waters Pageant The Gift of the Waters Pageant is traditionally held the first weekend in August and is set for August 6 and 7.     On Saturday, August 6, at noon, Hot Springs County Emergency Management and Thermopolis Police Department 911 Center will have Outdoor Alert Siren tests. In the future, these tests will take place the first Saturday each month, at noon. The tone you will hear this Saturday is called the “Hi-Lo” tone.     The Hot Springs County Sheriff's Department has a new K-9 unit with Deputy Shayna Cox and a one and half-year-old German Shepard named Riggs. Cox said that she and Riggs went through about three weeks of training working every day. Riggs was supplied by a company called MAKOR K9 of West Virginia.     The Bureau of Reclamation, in response to a request from the Hanover Irrigation District, has scheduled a flushing flow below Boysen Dam. “The purpose of the flushing flow below Boysen is to attempt to flush moss down river and mitigate the moss the district has at their diversion,” said Wyoming Area Manager Lyle D. Myler.     Last Thursday, a fire on BLM land in the Black Willow area, near East River Road, was contained to roughly 35 to 38 acres. The fire started in rough terrain after a lightning storm hit Hot Springs County the night before. Eight government engines stayed on scene for around three days.     On Friday, July 8, the family of Duncan Harris interred his ashes in the Nostrum family plot in the Monument Hill Cemetery located in Thermopolis. Duncan's widow, Janice Harris, helped the family gather together to celebrate his life, coming from Jackson Hole and elsewhere.
