    At the June 9 Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce board meeting held at Big Horn Federal, four 6th-graders presented their essays for the Civic Bee contest. The writers were: Baer McPhie, Brian Weaver, Ammon Wille, and Ruth Needham. Each of the four essay writers was awarded $100 in Chamber Bucks. The topics covered subjects such as business in Thermopolis, the economics of the administration and the nation, the value of parks, and inflation.     Cowboys and Cowgirls will compete in the action packed Thermopolis Cowboy Rendezvous PRCA Rodeo at Hot Springs County Fairgrounds June 24-25.     Tawnya Rush, graduate of Hot Springs County High School, now works in Billings, MT at KTVQ. Rush, Executive Producer of News, recently took home an Emmy Award for the station’s 5:30 newscast “Wild Wind on Turkey Tuesday.” This competition includes stations from Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington State.     Hot Springs Health is holding the Thermopolis Bystander CPR Course on June 18 at the hospital with multiple time slots available.     Barrie Lynn Bryant, a 27 year resident of Kirby, has been awarded a $24,473 grant by the Wyoming Arts Council for photography. Bryant will produce a documentary photography field work and teaching project that aims to assess, reveal, and offer solutions to pressing needs within Bighorn Basin communities.     Hot Springs State Park Superintendent Kevin Skates wants to remind tourists and local residents that dogs must have a leash while in the State Park.   • Woman charged with eight counts of animal cruelty

    The Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a report of an animal abuse case on a property in Owl Creek. Following the investigation, three horses, one goat, two ducks, two pigeons, and one goose were seized. The Sheriff’s Office charged 79-year-old Carolyn Tribbett with eight counts of alleged cruelty to animals. Upon arrival at the property, deputies met with Tribbett and presented a search warrant.
