Post office dedication ceremony set for Friday

The United States Postal Service cordially invites you to attend the dedication ceremony naming the Thermopolis Post Office, the Robert L. Brown Post Office Building. The event will be held on Friday, August 26 at 11 a.m. at the Hot Springs County High School Auditorium, 415 Springview Street. A reception will follow the ceremony.

Brown’s career with the U.S. Postal Service spanned 44 years, including 18 years as the postmaster. Former Postmaster Robert Brown passed away on September 11, 2020.

U.S. Senators John Barrasso, R-Wyo., Tom Carper, D-Del., and the late Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., cosponsored the legislation which the U.S. unanimously passed in 2020. The dedication was previously scheduled but was postponed due to Covid concerns.

“Renaming the post office after Bob Brown is a fitting tribute to his service – first in the military and later as the Thermopolis postmaster,” Enzi said. “He was born and raised in Thermopolis and exemplified Wyoming values. I’m glad the Senate passed this bill to honor and remember him,” he added.

Barrasso, who was Brown’s son-in-law, said, “Bob Brown was an American hero who inspired everyone who knew him. Renaming the Thermopolis post office after him is a perfect way to honor his memory,”

“Bob, my late father-in-law, served as postmaster in Thermopolis for many years after returning from his service in WWII and Korea. Many knew him as the nicest guy in town. I am deeply appreciative of Senator Enzi and Senator Carper’s work to get this bipartisan bill passed in the Senate. This is a wonderful way to honor Bob’s memory and service to Thermopolis and our nation,” added Barrasso.
