Alive at 25 is sponsoring a free defensive driving course Friday, June 5, at the Hot Springs County Annex building from 12:30-5 p.m. The course is designed for ages 15-25. The Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund recently awarded $195,678 to 30 cultural organizations around the state at their recent grant review board meeting held in Pinedale. Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation was awarded $8,000 for the Big Horn Basin Folk Festival scheduled for August 1-2. Bryce Harvey and Dylan Shaffer move a bench which was dedicated to the late Peggy Shaffer. Peggy Shaffer was a Hot Springs County native from 1946 to 2012. World champion barrel racer and seven-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier, Combs is the only person to win the WPRA World Championship on a stallion. Meeteetse Museums will be hosting its free annual tour to Legend Rock State Archaeological Site on Saturday, June 6, as well as a “pre-tour” presentation on June 5. Final numbers have been released from Hot Springs County School District No. 1, showing a decrease in enrollment from the end of the year, 2014 to the end of the year, 2015. While overall the decrease is just five students, a few of the classes showed large losses. From the end of the year in 2014 to the end of this school year, the sixth grade class lost a total of 18 students. The senior class showed a loss of 10 students, and the fourth grade lost 11. Pheasants Forever will be having their annual banquet Saturday, May 30 starting at 5 p.m. in the Hot Springs County Fair Building. Local runners will compete with Hot Spring County’s largest residents during the Running with the Buffalo event Saturday, May 30 beginning at 7:30 a.m. The race will start on the street outside the TePee Pool and runners will trek through the buffalo pasture and back towards the start. The Hot Springs County Conservation District gave fourth graders Eastern Redcedar trees as a way to promote conservation. Linda Barrett, Darcy Axtell, Dawn Peil and Jim Barrett gave the Ralph Witters Elementary students their trees. "Hopefully they'll get them planted with parents help," Linda Barrett said.
