A cookie jar auction and pig roast is slated for Saturday, Nov. 19 at the VFW to benefit Shannon Myers. Myers has been very ill the past two years and has undergone months worth of testing with still no definitive answer from doctors as to what is causing her illness. Proceeds from the auction will go to defray her medical expenses. Cookie jars or other donations may be dropped off at the VFW the 19th from noon until 6 p.m. when the auction begins. Bishop Duane Maddock explained in the church, leaders are not paid, and therefore the leadership is reorganized roughly every five years. The sixth annual Harvest Moon Ball is set for Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Hot Springs County Fair Building. The ball is open to the public and features dancing, food and will honor local ag citizens. Hawk’s Avenue of Flags will be going up on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11 beginning at 8 a.m. at Monument Hill Cemetery. The memorial was created in memory of Airman First Class Donald L. “Hawk” Hawkins, by his wife Betty Hawkins and daughter Julie Lehman, but it is for all veterans. Monument Hill Cemetery was chosen because it is where Hawk was laid to rest. The Thermopolis Community Blood Drive by United Blood Services will be from 3-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14 at the Hot Springs County Senior Center. A benefit for the Tom Lea family will be held at Thermopolis Middle School on Friday, Nov. 11. Lea, who worked with the Hot Springs County School District in the bus garage, passed suddenly and the family could use help with final expenses. Hot Springs Recreation District is hosting a Turkey Hoop Shoot Thursday, Nov. 17 at the armory. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. with the event starting at 7 p.m. Parent participation is required.
