The Community Federated Church will host a sale of cookies, candy and gently used shoes, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at the church. Those attending the sale can fill a container with delicious homemade cookies, candy and more, choosing as much as they like of whatever they like for only $8 per pound. On Saturday, Dec. 10, the Bobcat Speech and Debate team will be holding their annual Bobcat Invitational Speech Tournament. If anyone in the community is interested in judging for the tournament, there is no experience required. A short training session will be held that morning to explain the various events and what you need to look for as a judge. There are nine teams registered for the meet. The Tree Lot Sale Saturday at Thermopolis Middle School featured 20 trees, a variety of wreaths and other Christmas décor offered at silent auction. The sale is a fundraiser for the People for People Backpack Program, which provides kids in need with food to see them through the weekends. People for People is a small group of volunteers that provide free meals every Sunday for those in need in Thermopolis. Judy Carswell said the group is down to eight teams that provide the meals, though 12 is optimal. “Our teams,” she explained, “consist of different entities in the community.” For instance, the team she’s on is the courthouse team; other teams might come from churches, the VFW or even a neighborhood. Community members packed into the VFW Saturday evening for the dinner and auction which raised over $22,000 to benefit Shannon Myers. One of the many highlights of the night was when a saw, hand painted by Cindy Clancy, was purchased by Joe Arnold for $1,025. He donated the saw back to be auctioned off again. A cookie jar auction and pig roast is slated for Saturday, Nov. 19 at the VFW to benefit Shannon Myers. Myers has been very ill the past two years and has undergone months worth of testing with still no definitive answer from doctors as to what is causing her illness.
