Gusts of wind and a few raindrops didn't dampen the spirits of the artists who painted in the park last Saturday in the first annual 'Plein-Air Thermopolis' event at Hot Springs State Park. The T-Town Crusaders are gearing up for what promises to be a fun night with a Hags and Bags Purse Auction, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13. The auction will be held at the VFW with dinner from 6 p.m. til 7 p.m., a nacho bar and dessert, with the auction beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 with just 120 available for purchase. Hot Springs County’s FFA Alumni will be hosting the Annual Harvest Moon Ball on Saturday, Sept. 29. Attendance was a bit down for this year's Hot Springs County Friends of the NRA banquet last Saturday, though Friends member Cynthia Garbin noted those who attended were very enthusiastic. Fifth Judicial District Court Honorable Judge Robert E. Skar will retire on Oct. 2, and in recognition for his years on the bench there will be an open house for him at Worland, where his main office is. The bakers and creators in town are filling up their jars and baskets in anticipation of a Cookie Jar Auction for Kelly Jo Burr to help with medical expenses incurred since her diagnosis of breast cancer. Burr was diagnosed in June with cancer in one breast, but when the end of July and the date of her surgery rolled around, she opted for a double mastectomy as a precaution. The cancer was deep and doctors also removed five of her lymph nodes. Fortunately, her doctors believe the surgery was a success and Burr will not have to deal with months...
The 18th Annual WYO Quarter Horse Fall Sale was held at the fairgrounds last weekend, selling more than 80 head of quality horses. According to Carole Smith, the average price for the 29 broke geldings was $17,224. There were 25 started two-year-olds that went for an average of $7,550, along with eight yearlings averaging $2,600 each and 19 weanlings that brought an average of $1,774. The high seller for the event was a two-year old gray gelding, Mercedes Otoe Oil, who sold for $47,000....

The Hot Springs State Park Bike Your Park event provides an opportunity to celebrate “Bike Your Park Day” with either casual mountain biking or road biking with discussion of what’s available in the state park.
