  • Kids activities galore at Big Horn Basin Folk Festival

    The Fifth Annual Big Horn Basin Folk Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4, in Hot Springs State Park. The festival includes music, storytelling and recollections, art activities and demonstrations for all ages, a craft fair and trading post, and food vendors.     Several Hot Springs County alumni were inducted into the Bobcat Hall of Fame last Friday, including: Colte Russell, Curt Wyss, Leroy Hayes and 1979 boys golf team members Tom Sullivan, Mike Conner and Paul Phillabaum.   • Disc golf course available

    There’s a new activity in town that’s perfect for the entire family – Disc Golf. A coordinated effort between the State Park, Hot City Outdoor Alliance and the school district has made the nine-hole course possible. Played like traditional golf, except instead of balls, flying discs are used to putt, drive and make that elusive hole-in-one.     This year the Hot Springs County Fair will again be home to the Over the Hill Showmanship event, which has not been seen since 2015. The showmanship event is for anyone but the youth exhibitors, including parents and former 4-H or FFA members. Over the Hill will follow the regular livestock shows for large animals, with perpetual trophies awarded.     Those with animals at the Hot Springs County Fair can put a little flair in their entries’ stalls during fair week, during the Stall Judging Contest sponsored by the FFA Alumni. Stall decorations can be done up until the Pre-Sale Buyers’ Dinner at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2.     There will be a Hot Springs County Preschool screening and health fair on Aug. 8 and 9 for students age 3 and 4. Screenings are a quick assessment to make sure your child is on track and meeting developmental milestones.     The Wyoming Department of Transportation will be providing a Basic Rider Course in Thermopolis on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17 and 18 at 8 a.m., at the WYDOT parking lot. The Basic Rider Course (BRC) was developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. The course is designed for those who have little or no riding experience, although most experienced riders will also benefit from the course.
