The weather was certainly a factor in the fifth annual Oktobrewfest being a popular event this past Saturday. Though recent years have seen cold and rain for the event, this years had warmer temperatures and at least a bit of sunshine. Hot Springs County will have 21 students competing at 4 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 13 at the state marching festival at the Casper Events Center. Band Director Drew Brown said this is the first time in about 20 years that Hot Springs County High School has had a band participate in the event, and encouraged the community to come out and support them. The 17th annual pumpkin patch, provided by Hot Springs County Sheriff Lou Falgoust, will be at the front of the Law Enforcement Center on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day. As a way to give back to the community, Thermopolis Middle School will provide a leaf raking service to residents on Friday, Oct. 26 from 8:30-11 a.m. This year is the sixth for the program. Kurt Anthony Herrington, 33, passed away on October 1, 2018. He was born on June 26, 1985, in Susanville, Calif., to Matt and Rosemarie (Rose) Herrington. Kurt loved everything about life. Mary Pauline Wills passed away on September 15, 2018, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born December 7, 1947, in Thermopolis, Wyo. Mary grew up on the Kirby Creek Ranch near Thermopolis. Her mother, Rose Marie Berg Wills, and father, Charles Michael Wills, worked on the sheep ranch, which was owned by Dave and JoAnn Jones. Gerald Warren "Jerry" Hilbird, 78, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis following a period of ill health. Born November 27, 1939, in North Bend, Neb., he was one of four children of Edward and Pauline (Ehrich) Hilbird. The Thermopolis football team came home with a win after shutting out Newcastle 66-0 Friday night. Coach Matt McPhie said overall the team played well and definitely were more physical on the field. Last Friday, middle school cross country students travelled to Powell for their conference meet, their final competition for the season.
