Nate Messenger, FBO at the airport, reports 174 total operations at the airport for the month of June, including three air ambulances and nine aircraft that spent the night. The Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department responded to three calls Sunday evening as lightning lit up the sky and ignited dry grasses. Chief Mark Collins reported 21 personnel responded to three fires, reported on Black Mountain Road, 12 miles west along Highway 120 and west of Wind River Canyon. The Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office this past week did tobacco and alcohol sale compliance checks at local businesses. According to the reports, there were four compliance checks regarding sale of tobacco to underage people; of those, subjects at two different businesses were cited for selling tobacco to minors. With temperatures increasing through last week and reaching 102 degrees Saturday and Sunday, there is plenty of dry grass in the area. The VFW will be home to a cookie jar auction for John Gerrells on Friday, July 13. Gerrells recently underwent colon cancer surgery also has to have a heart surgery. Joe Kordonowy, 81, passed away July 6, 2018, at his home in Thermopolis, Wyo., surrounded by family. Joe was born August 23, 1936, to William and Pauline (Syminow) Kordonowy at the family farm near Fryburg, N. D. Edward Henry Deromedi, 86, died peacefully in his sleep at home on June 28, 2018, due to declining health. Edward was born, the youngest of 7 children, in Gebo, Wyo., to Joseph and Lena Deromedi on June 22, 1932. His mother died when he was three years old. At age seven his sister, Elizabeth Kubiak, cared for him at their farm in Winchester, Wyo. He spent his time helping out on the farm and going to school at the Winchester Country School. Born January 27, 1932, in Niobrara County, Wyo., he was the son of Charles and Edith (Lineback) Crofutt.
