    The Thermopolis Town Council met on June 3 for their first regular meeting for the month of June. Much of the meeting was taken up with citizen participation, where local citizens appeared to voice their concerns, or their support, for allowing fireworks to be used within the Town limits on the Fourth of July. Of those who spoke in opposition to allowing fireworks, the main concern seemed to be the effect of the noise from the fireworks upon pets, the elderly, and local veterans, who may suffer from PTSD.     The Hot Springs County Commissioners met on June 3 for their first regular meeting in June. The commissioners were asked to approve the filing of a Satisfaction of Judgment in the District Court case in which the Tipi Retreat and its owners were ordered by the court to pay fines to the county for their violation of the county’s land use regulations.     According to Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer Kelly Erickson of Thermopolis, the Broadway Bridge construction project has been delayed to a planned start date of June 16. Due to weather delays on other projects, this project has also been set back. During bridge improvements, scheduled to begin June 6, the Broadway Street bridge (crossing the Bighorn River) will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.     Hugh Ivan Baird, 80, passed away the evening June 3, 2025, in Apache Junction, Ariz. He suffered a stroke in October of 2023 and because of his condition, chose to live the rest of his life where it was warm. Hugh was born in Worland, Wyo., on July 11, 1944 to Leon and Vera (Vass) Baird. He grew up on the Baird family ranch on Gooseberry Creek where he attended grade school.
