The Hot Springs County High School Bobcats wrestling team was in Casper over the weekend, to compete in the 2A State Championships. The Cats finished in 5th place as a team (just one point behind Big Piney), and Brody Sorensen brought home a state championship with Cannon Boren, Will Ward and Sam Skelton earning 2nd place finishes. Joe Arnold has marked his 40th year working as a custodian for the Hot Springs County School District. Because of his dedication to the district, the administration building, which he has been in charge of cleaning for decades, has been named after him. The Postal Service has published notices of intent to consolidate thirty processing and distribution centers. According to the notices, “it is highly likely” that each P&DC “will be modernized and repurposed as a Local Processing Center, a Sorting and Delivery Center, or both, consistent with the broader network redesign outlined in the DFA Plan.” The Casper Center is one of the centers listed, meaning Thermopolis mail could be rerouted through Billings, Montana if the proposal goes through. After a period of declining health, Sherry Dee Wheeler was called home on February 17, 2024. The daughter of Jay and Esther Wollam, Sherry married her high school sweetheart, Danny Wheeler in 1968. They spent the first years of their marriage in Anchorage, Alaska, while he was stationed there in the Army. Here the first of their three daughters was born. Clyde Brown Cable, Jr., 70, of Thermopolis, Wyo., passed away on February 23, 2024. He was born on February 8, 1954, in Perryton, Texas, to Clyde Brown, Sr. and Mary Frances (Earhart) Cable. After suffering from a tragic gun accident at 2 years old, Clyde was left with only arm. He grew up in Texas and graduated from Cal Farley Boys Ranch in 1972. Last week, the Hot Springs County High School Girls Basketball Team was on the road at Lander on Thursday and then came home for a game against Powell on Saturday. This past weekend, the Thermopolis 7th grade Middle School Basketball team won the Yellowstone Conference Championship, which was held in Powell, Wyo. The team entered the tournament with a 12-1 record during the regular season. The only loss came in an overtime defeat to Lander. In the first game of the tournament, the Bobcats defeated Riverton by a final score of 39-18. Lane Collamer led the way with 13 points. The University of Wyoming Extension will offer six private pesticide applicator education programs at various locations in the Bighorn Basin from February 5 through March 20. Private applicator licenses are required for anyone who applies or supervises the application of Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs).
