    The Travel & Tourism Board met for their regular monthly meeting on December 16. The Board reviewed the status of their on-going projects, and discussed other future projects. Director Angie Guyon, reported that both the Town of Thermopolis and the Town of East Thermopolis have now approved the plan for installing wayfinding signs.     The Thermopolis - Hot Springs County Chamber of Commerce board held their regular monthly meeting on December 11 in the conference room at Gottsche Rehab and Wellness. As planning for the upcoming new year gears up, the board discussed their 2026 city/county map project. The Board will be producing 10,000 copies of the map for distribution throughout the county.     After a surely appreciated holiday break, the Bobcats and Lady Cats of Hot Springs County High School will be back in action this week. In the early season the two teams have each played a number of Class 3A and 4A teams, however, 2A competition has been slim. That will all change come this Thursday, January 8, when the teams will travel to Ethete to face off with two very highly touted Class 2A teams from Wyoming Indian.   • Wrestling club grapplers compete at Utah events

    Several members of the Thermopolis Wrestling Club (TWC) traveled with Team Wyoming to Utah last weekend to compete first at the Christmas Clash Duals in Farmington and then at the Salt Lake Slam. The Christmas Clash was held at the Western Sports Park in Farmington, Utah, on January 2. It is one of the largest youth dual wrestling events in the Mountain West and features boys and girls wrestlers from both elementary and middle school levels.   • Hospital board considers community needs report

    On December 30 the Board of Directors of Hot Springs Health met for their last regular monthly meeting. CEO Scott Alwin reviewed for the board the steps which have been taken to update the Community Health Needs Assessment for Hot Springs County. The needs assessment is required by the federal government to be updated every three years. Community needs were identified and prioritized at a stakeholder meeting, which took place in November.     The Hot Springs County School Board met for their last meeting of the year on December 18. For their first order of business, the board held elections of officers for the calendar year 2026. With one exception, the same officers for 2025 were elected to serve for 2026. Jennifer Axtell will serve as chair, Marshall Keller will serve as vice-chair and Nichole Weyer will serve as clerk.     In the last week before the holiday break, the Thermopolis Bobcats had a dual in Greybull and then traveled to Worland to participate at the Battle in the Big Horns Tournament. This year, the Cats team is somewhat understaffed, leaving a lot of open weight classes and making it difficult to secure a win in a dual.     At the second regularly scheduled Thermopolis Town Council meeting for the month of December, the council held a public informational hearing on the Town’s Lead Service Line Investigation & Replacement Project. The town’s water system currently serves approximately 2,725 residents and 1,528 service connections. Dr. Vern Miller, who has served as the county’s public health officer for a number of years, was reappointed by the commissioners to a new term.     The Thermopolis wrestling teams had a busy schedule last week. On Thursday the teams competed in a dual at Greybull/Riverside. The Lady Cats won their dual by a score of 18-6, while the Bobcats battled to a 36-36 tie in the boys division. Then on Friday the teams headed to Worland for the large 2025 Battle in the Big Horns Tournament, which drew eighteen teams to the event.     The #2 ranked Hot Springs County High School Bobcat basketball team kicked off their tournament season in Green River last weekend at the Flaming Gorge Classic. The tournament draws a large number of teams from across Wyoming and several other states. On Friday, the Cats drew Mountain View as their first opponents in the tournament.     At the December 2 Thermopolis Town Council meeting, the council held a discussion about employee pay rates. At a previous meeting, the council had agreed to increase the base pay rate for the police department by two dollars per hour.
