Coach advises Lady Cats to bring the love back to the court

The Lady Bobcat volleyball team had two rounds this past week, first taking on Buffalo on Thursday and them playing at home against Powell on Saturday.

The girls dropped three games against Buffalo, 17-25. 16-25 and 19-25.

“We were not mentally prepared and couldn’t get going on a run with them,” said head coach Shannon Hill. “We would side out and then give them the ball right back. We also had a hard time setting anything up and were constantly sending free balls or something easy to them.”

Julie Johnson and Lexi Overfield led the team in kills with six and five respectively. Brianna DeVries dropped in a single ace over the Lady Buffs while Tricia Capelle went down for 11 digs and Grace Whitt added three blocks to her stats.

The ladies turned around and played Powell at home on Saturday and played much better.

“We didn’t come out with a win,” Hill said, “but we looked more like a team than we did on Thursday.

“I talked with my girls about taking the pressure off and remembering why they play volleyball and to bring that love back to the court. You could see the difference in their play in the first three games, but we lost the momentum in game four.

“Our main focus needs to be on getting out of rotations and not letting teams get on runs.”

Matches against Powell scored 18-25, 25-14, 19-25 and 12-25.

Whitt took over kills against the Lady Panthers with 10, followed by six from Reagan Severance. Kamry Bowman popped over three aces and DeVries had 18 digs. Overfield added another four blocks for the game.
