County declared state of disaster due to drought

Hot Springs County’s Board of Commissioners signed a resolution on Tuesday morning declaring Hot Springs County to be in a State of Disaster due to drought and the agricultural impacts of drought.

With the drought conditions expected to worsen and the long-term effects of drought on the area, the commissioners agreed the county is suffering critical impairment and the cost of support for the agricultural community is in excess of resources available at this time.

What the resolution does is open the county up for any monies that may be coming down from the state or the federal government for help with drought issues.

According to the U. S. Drought Monitor, the USDA, Department of Commerce, and NOAA, Hot Springs County is suffering from moderate to extreme drought conditions.
