Bobcats struggle against Worland

The Bobcat boys basketball team lost a tough one to the undefeated Worland Warriors last Friday in Worland, 47-86.

“Without a doubt, it was a tough night for us and a lot of things didn’t go our way,” said head coach Shane Corpening. “We could have done a much better job playing team defense and rebounding the ball.”

Corpening said those are two areas the team will be working on extensively at practice, moving forward.

The team got in foul trouble early, too, which didn’t help.

“Jarron Mortimore probably played less than a quarter as he picked up some fouls early,” Corpening said, “and Logan Shumway wasn’t available as he is battling an illness. So, we were short handed, which proves difficult when you are playing an undefeated team like Worland.”

Offensively, Corpening thought the boys handled Worland’s pressure defense much better than the last time they faced each other.

“We cut our turnovers in half,” Corpening said. “I felt like when we got into our offensive sets we were able to get good looks at the basket.

“I thought Duder Harvey had another good game, scoring a game high 21 points and Hardy Johnson provided us a good spark off the bench, scoring 11 points.”

The Cats take on Powell on the road on Friday with the JV team playing at 4 p.m. and varsity taking the court at 7 p.m. On Saturday, at home, JV will play at noon with the varsity team starting at 4:40 p.m.
