Lady Cats hit the road Friday to take on Lady Outlaws

The Lady Bobcat's varsity basketball team had a rough time in their game against Worland's Lady Warriors last week, ending the night with a 27-51 loss.

Worland dominated every statistical category with the exception of free-throws and their mix of size and quickness bothered the Cats, but coach Cory Sova said the girls didn't play offensively like they are capable.

"When we finally would run our offense with aggressiveness and decent execution, we struggled shooting the ball," Sova said. "I was disappointed with ur lack of confidence on the offensive end. We had been making some nice strides the last few days."

The Warriors made a variety of inside and outside shots when they needed them and our girls only answered part of the time.

A poor end of the first quarter and an ugly third quarter took them right out of contention.

"Sesi (Jensen) played well," Sova said. "She lead us with eight points and eight rebounds along with three steals. She continues to grow and has learnned how to play when in foul trouble. She missed a good chunk of the first half because of three fouls."

Haley McDermott added five rebounds and two assists to the books and Tahja Hunt added another five rebounds, with McKenna Bomengen and Ashley McPhie on their heels with four each.

Bomengen played less than half the game, fouling out early in the fourth quarter.

"We miss her energy and fire when she is not on the floor, but she did a good job encouraging others, which was great to see," Sova said.

"Some girls who don't normally log varsity minutes got some time and experience with the varsity atmosphere. We all need to learn and grow from how the evening played out."

When Buffalo couldn't make it over the mountain on Friday due to weather, the girls got in an extra practice, and Sova said he was really happy with the girls' focus and fire.

They'll be traveling to Rawlins on Friday to take on the Lady Outlaws.

"The girls have a tough week in store, but are committed to prepare and challenge with just one week left before Regionals," Sova said. "It is important we play our best ball to carry over to Regionals.

"Coach Despain, Mecca and myself really enjoy being at practice with all of our girls, and then watching them bring their skills and teamwork to the court on game days. The girls have been awesome with solid commitment."
