Students head to state drama

The Hot Springs County High School Drama Club is headed to State Drama in Casper this week, Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.

They will present designs and acting pieces for judges from around the country.

“The students have worked very hard to get ready for State,” director Mary McGillivray said. “That includes adjusting to the new rules for State this year.”

The Wyoming Educators of Secondary Theatre, the group who hosts State Drama, and the Wyoming Thespian Chapter have aligned the rules with the International Thespian Festival (ITF) rules.

Students can qualify for ITF by participating in many categories at State Drama, including: Marketing/Publicity, Acting, Musical Theatre, Scenic Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design, Stage Management, and many more.

Students who qualify have the opportunity to go to Lincoln, Neb. to participate in ITF.

State Drama will also be offering workshops for the students to attend. These workshops are to help students improve their skills in various areas of Theatre.

“The new format for State is very exciting and will offer more opportunity for the students to meet and work with other Theatre students from around the state,” McGillivray said.

The students who will be participating at State are Aaron Hanson, Aime Robinson, Ashley Brawley, Ben Manning, Breeze Petty, Chauncey Morris, Deanna Owings, Elizabeth Wagstaff, Emily Anderson, Hannah Hu, Karissa Balstad-McGarvie, Katie Burrows, Krynn McGinty, Kyle Mosser, Lane Randall, Mikayla Lanik, Naomi Bishop, Ryan Miller, Ryan Slagle, Stormy Cox, Taydee Landrum, and Tyler Kay.
