Lady Cats struggle at home

Lady Cats volleyball had a busy couple of days last week with matches against Worland on Thursday and Homecoming games against Rawlins on Saturday afternoon.

It was kind of a rough one against Worland with the girls dropping three, 12-25, 13-25 and 13-25.

"We played with effort and intensity," coach Shannon Hill said, "we just couldn't finish any points. We let Worland take control of the match right away and we never could gain it back."

Hill added their serve/receive was off as well, and even though they had been practicing their offense all week, if you don't have a pass you can't get much done at the net.

Haley McDermott had five kills and six digs against Worland. Mary Ryan dropped five kills and one ace Thursday night, and Sesi Jensen added an additional four kills and two blocks.

On Saturday, the girls had a great first game against Rawlins.

"We came out swinging and playing with confidence," Hill said. "We kept them from going on any huge runs until the very end of the game."

An overturned call in the second game sapped the momentum out of the Lady Cats and things went downhill from there.

The second game of the afternoon was rough as the girls had a hard time executing anything and the third game of the day saw them up and down.

"Our focus needs to be not allowing teams to go on huge runs," Hill said, "and keeping the ball when we get the serve back."

Emmie Coyne slammed in six kills followed by Ryan's five kills. McDermott had two aces for the day and Alex Russell came away with eight digs.

Final scores against Rawlins were 18-25, 8-25 and 15-25.
