Wyoming Bank Notes program

The next meeting of the Hot Springs County Historical Society will feature “Wyoming National Bank Notes, with emphasis on the Bighorn Basin Banks.”

Dr. Peter Huntoon, a former geology professor at the University of Wyoming, will present the program focusing on banks and notes from the Bighorn Basin and the historic bankers who signed them.

Between 1863 and 1935, national banks issued paper money with the name of the bank and signatures of the bank officers.

First National Bank of Thermopolis was the first of eleven banks in eight towns to use such currency in the Bighorn Basin, beginning in 1901.

The program is Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Museum.

The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. If you have any questions, please contact Barb Vietti at 921-1551.
