    Brad Basse, Sharon Skiver and other members of the Rotary Club presented $6,000 to John Gerrells and Jeff Strong of the Thermopolis VFW to help with much needed roof repairs on the building. Members of the VFW have been working to raise funds to fix the roof for some time now. Several community events are held at the VFW each year.     Amanda Moeller, Director of the Travel and Tourism Board, has resigned her position as of January 1, 2020. The board is currently seeking her replacement.     Jayci Mead, owner of JC's Dream Team Bucking Bulls, had her bull, JC's Gangster, in New York City at Madison Square Garden for Professional Bull Riding (PBR) on Jan 3-5. Friday in round 1 Fabiano Viera from Brazil drew Gangster and rode him for 85.5 points. JC's Gangster was asked back for Round 3 on Sunday.     The Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department held their annual elections Tuesday night with Mark Collins retaining his position as fire chief. Assisting him will be Bryce Gilbert, assistant chief, captain Brandon Blakesley, first lieutenant Dale Andreen, second lieutenant Jay Erk, treasurer Forest Coleman-Weisz and secretary London Jenks. The department had 77 calls during 2019 including 28 vehicle crashes. They responded to seven structure fires and 10 grass fires, which burned approximately 312 acres in Hot Springs County.     Wedg and Kathy Taylor held a celebration on December 29, 2019, for their 50th wedding anniversary. Wedg said, "It was good. We had a lot of people there." Kathy said, "It was very nice."   • Man sentenced in sexual assault case

    Kenneth R. Rogers Jr. was sentenced to 4-8 years with the Wyoming Department of Corrections after entering an Alford plea to one count of Sexual Assault of a Minor in the Third Degree, a felony. District Court Judge Bobbi Overfield accepted the plea agreement as outlined by a Plea Change Hearing Order. The state dismissed four other original charges. Rogers was given credit for time served in the amount of 353 days. Rogers was arrested on December 28, 2018, along with Kimberly Sams. At that time, they were each charged with multiple felonies.
