    Citizens needing to do work in the Hot Springs County Courthouse will find the elevator is currently out of service. Issues with the elevator had been coming more frequently, however, over the weekend it became a safety issue when the elevator began moving too quickly up and down the shaft with no gentle start or stop. Maintenance head Chuck Carver contacted an elevator company in Colorado that repairs this particular brand of elevator and through a troubleshooting process with them determined...

    Paul Ward came before the Hot Springs County Planning Commission last week with a request to change a portion of his property from agricultural to industrial. Ward would like to take approximately 14 acres of his land above the irrigation ditch and create a gravel pit. The area in question is something of a hill, approximately 20 to 30 feet above the ditch, and Ward intends to basically level out the land, removing the gravel in the process.     Figures are now final for the 2015 assessed value of Hot Springs County according to treasurer Shelley Deromedi. Current locally assessed values are $50,592,682. State Assessed utilities have come in at $5,783,687, railroads are $3,634,384 and hard minerals have been assessed at $3,666,132. Oil production came in with a final $166,763,947 and gas production assessed at $399,035.
