    Tuesday evening, the Thermopolis Town Council, with Mayor Mike Mortimore absent and Mark Nelson voting “no,” approved a request from Derek Burrows for designation of an area near the skate park to allow people to set off their fireworks.     Tuesday at the meeting of the Travel and Tourism Board, Director Amanda Moeller reported the budget has been sent in to the State, and it was returned with no comments or issues. By state statute, she noted, there has to be a public hearing — advertised three weeks in advance — regarding the budget.     The Park County Historic Preservation Commission recently reported the Legend Rock petroglyph site was vandalized with graffiti sometime this month. Though the name “Jordon Norris” appears to have been written on the rock, that does not necessarily mean it is name of the vandal. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Hot Springs State Park at 307-864-2176.     On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 15, after about two hours of deliberation, a jury returned a verdict of not guilty on two counts in a case against Chance Jacobsen in Hot Springs County District Court. The case was turned over to the jury at about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday — after a trial which began Monday — and they made the decision prior to 4:15 p.m. to find Jacobsen not guilty on counts of child abuse and battery.     Fifty-year-old Michelle Redland ran the Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon June 5 in Deadwood, S.D.     The Hot Springs County Weed and Pest District will be spraying for mosquitoes between June 29 and July 6 in the county including the areas of Lucerne Valley and Owl Creek, weather permitting. The district loans out small foggers to property owners for use in a pickup or on a 4-wheeler. Larvicide is also available.     One person died and another was hospitalized after a Saturday afternoon crash in Wind River Canyon. Cheyenne resident Jamie Winters, 41, died as a result of the crash which occurred at 12:40 p.m. near mile post 123 on US Highway 20 approximately 8 miles south of Thermopolis.
