Minor injuries in rollover, seatbelt use commended

Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Beatriz Schulmeister had plenty of positive comments for Kayla Connor, who was involved in a single-vehicle rollover Sunday, as the 20-year-old Thermopolis resident was wearing her seatbelt during the accident.

Schulmeister responded to the accident at mile marker 146 on Highway 20 at about 2:55 p.m. Sunday. According to the report, Conner was southbound driving her 2002 Ford Explorer on her way into town. She found herself driving toward the west, and overcorrected the vehicle, which left again the highway to the east. It then flipped and rolled once, coming to rest on its wheels.

Schulmeister noted Conner’s injuries were minor, including a bruise on her knee and an abrasion on her arm. However, she was cited for failure to maintain a single lane of travel. A passenger in the vehicle, Dillon Matheson, received no injuries. The vehicle was reported as totaled.

The trooper praised Conner’s belief in and practice of buckling up, and encourages young people to talk about driving safely as it might be more effective than officers reminding them.
